FAQ

What are electrolytes?

Electrolytes are essential minerals—like sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphorous and magnesium—that carry an electric charge when dissolved in water or body fluids. Think of them as the "electrical current" that keeps your body's systems running.

FAQ

What do electrolytes do?

They aren't just for athletes; every cell in your body depends on them to function. Their primary jobs include: Conducting Electricity - They send signals through your nerves and tell your muscles (including your heart) to contract. Balancing Hydration - They regulate the amount of water inside and outside your cells through osmosis. Regulating pH - They act as "buffers" to keep your blood from becoming too acidic or too alkaline.

FAQ

What is Electrolyte Powder?

Electrolyte powder is a concentrated blend of essential minerals that, when dissolved in water, gain an electrical charge to support critical bodily functions.

FAQ

What is low sodium electrolyte powder?

GoHydrate is a good example of a concentrated blend of essential minerals that, when dissolved in water, gain an electrical charge to support critical bodily functions, and contains less than 100 mg of sodium. Low-sodium options are generally preferred for daily hydration and moderate activity, whereas high-sodium powders are designed for endurance athletes or heavy sweaters who lose significant salt during intense exercise.

FAQ

What ingredients are in electrolyte powder?

GoHydrate has 5 electrolytes: Calcium, Sodium, Potassium, Phosphorous, Magnesium. Stevia is used for sweetening; flavors and colors are all natural; no sugar, preservatives or fillers.

FAQ

What are the benefits of electrolyte powder?

Enhanced Hydration: More efficient at restoring fluid levels than water.

Muscle Support: Helps prevent cramps and fatigue by regulating the signals that tell muscles to contract and relax.

Energy and Focus: Supports cellular energy production and maintains the electrical impulses needed for quick reaction times and mental clarity.

FAQ

Why choose low sodium electrolytes?

By choosing a low-sodium, sugar-free alternative like GoHydrate, you are supporting your body's hydration needs without the unwanted side effects of excessive salt intake— like bloating, thirst, or heart-health concerns.

Blood Pressure Management: High sodium intake can cause fluid retention and raise blood pressure.

Daily Maintenance: For non-athletes, a normal diet usually provides enough salt. Supplemental electrolytes are meant to balance water levels without overloading the kidneys.

Digestive Comfort: Very high salt concentrations can sometimes cause nausea or stomach upset in sensitive individuals.

Flavor: Low-sodium powders like GoHydrate often have a lighter, more refreshing taste compared to the noticeably salty flavor of high-sodium brands.

FAQ

Are low sodium electrolytes better?

We think so.

Primary Health Risks of high sodium diets:

High Blood Pressure (Hypertension): Sodium attracts water into the bloodstream, increasing blood volume and putting constant pressure on artery walls. This is a leading cause of heart disease and stroke.

Heart and Vessel Damage: Long-term strain can cause the heart to work harder, leading to heart failure, an enlarged heart (ventricular hypertrophy), or stiffening of the arteries.

Kidney Disease: High sodium levels make it harder for the kidneys to remove excess fluid, potentially leading to chronic kidney disease or kidney stones.

Target Organ Damage: Excess salt can harm the brain, blood vessels, and kidneys even in people who do not have high blood pressure.

Other Potential Issues: A high-sodium diet is also linked to an increased risk of stomach cancer, osteoporosis (by causing the body to lose calcium), and gastric ulcers.

Short-Term Effects: Water Retention & Bloating: You may experience swelling in the face, hands, or feet (edema) as your body holds onto extra fluid.

Increased Thirst: The brain triggers thirst to help restore the balance of sodium and water in your cells.

Headaches and Fatigue: Frequent headaches or a feeling of weakness can occur as water is pulled from your cells to dilute the salt in your blood.

FAQ

Is electrolyte powder good for hydration?

Yes, electrolyte powders are highly effective for hydration, especially when plain water isn't enough to restore your body's mineral balance.

Why They Work:
Rapid Absorption: The minerals in these powders (electrolytes) create an electrical charge when dissolved, which helps pull water into your bloodstream and cells more efficiently than water alone.

Mineral Replacement: They replace the specific nutrients—like sodium, potassium, and magnesium—that you can lose throughout the day which are critical for preventing muscle cramps and fatigue.

FAQ

What is the best electrolyte powder?

GoHydrate was built for real life: zero sugar, a gentler sodium level, five key electrolytes, and vitamin D.

It supports effective hydration without extra calories or a big sodium hit, making it easier to use every day, for the whole family.

FAQ

What's the difference between high and low sodium electrolytes?

The amount of sodium varies considerably by brand; however, most electrolyte brands are not much more than salty mixes with anywhere from 500-1,000 mg of sodium per serving.

GoHydrate has only 80mg of sodium per serving.

FAQ

Is electrolyte powder better than sports drinks?

Electrolyte powders are generally considered a healthier and more effective choice for daily hydration than traditional sports drinks, primarily due to their lack of sugar and more balanced mineral profiles.

Why Powders Often Outperform Sports Drinks:

Zero Sugar: Most popular electrolyte powders, such as GoHydrate, are sugar-free. Traditional sports drinks often contain high amounts of sugar, which can lead to unnecessary calorie intake and blood sugar spikes.

Gentler Sodium Levels: While some sports drinks are salt bombs, powders like GoHydrate offer a gentler sodium level designed for real life and daily use rather than just elite endurance athletics.

Comprehensive Mineral Profile: Powders typically provide a more complete range of electrolytes—including potassium, magnesium, and calcium—whereas many sports drinks focus primarily on sodium and chloride.

Portability & Customization: Powder packets are easier to transport and allow you to control the concentration by adjusting the amount of water you use.

FAQ

How is GoHydrate different from Liquid IV?

While Liquid I.V. is designed for rapid, rescue-style rehydration, GoHydrate is built for daily, sugar-free wellness.

The primary differences between a daily-use electrolyte powder (like GoHydrate) and Liquid I.V. include:

Sugar and Calorie Content - Liquid I.V. contains approximately 11g of added sugar and 45–50 calories per serving. It uses sugar to leverage sodium-glucose cotransport, which pulls water into the bloodstream faster during intense dehydration.
Daily Powders (e.g., GoHydrate) often contain zero sugar and negligible calories (0–5 kcal). They are designed for real life and are generally safer for those managing weight, blood pressure, or sugar intake levels.

Sodium Levels - Liquid I.V. features a high sodium load of about 500mg per stick (roughly 22% of your Daily Value). This level is best suited for heavy sweat loss or endurance athletes.
Daily Powders (e.g., GoHydrate) typically use a gentler sodium level, around 80mg, which supports hydration without significantly impacting daily salt intake for most people.

Mineral and Vitamin Profiles - Liquid I.V. focuses primarily on sodium and potassium, along with B-vitamins and Vitamin C.
Daily Powders (e.g., GoHydrate) often provide a more balanced profile of five essential electrolytes (Calcium, Magnesium, Sodium, Phosphorus, and Potassium) and, in the case of GoHydrate, includes Vitamin D for immune support.

FAQ

How do electrolytes work?

Electrolytes are essential minerals—such as sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorous—that carry an electric charge when dissolved in water or body fluids. They are vital because your body uses these electrical charges to facilitate chemical reactions and maintain balance between the inside and outside of your cells.

Key Functions of Electrolytes: Conducting Nerve Impulses: Your brain sends electrical signals through nerve cells to communicate with the rest of your body. These signals, called nerve impulses, are generated by changes in the electrical charge of the nerve cell membrane, primarily caused by the movement of sodium ions.

Muscle Contraction: Muscles require electrolytes to move. For instance, calcium allows muscle fibers to slide together to contract, while magnesium is necessary for those fibers to relax afterward.

Maintaining Hydration: Electrolytes, particularly sodium, help regulate fluid balance through a process called osmosis. This ensures that water moves into or out of cells as needed, preventing them from shriveling or bursting.

Regulating pH Levels: Your body must stay at a specific acidity/alkalinity level (around a pH of 7.35–7.45 for blood).

Electrolytes like phosphorous act as buffers to prevent the blood from becoming too acidic or basic. Unlike many other processed beverages or sports drinks that use high levels of inorganic phosphates (like phosphoric acid) as preservatives or flavor enhancers, GoHydrate includes it in lower, balanced amounts as a functional electrolyte.
This is an important distinction because very high levels of added phosphates in processed foods are sometimes linked to kidney and cardiovascular concerns.

FAQ

When should I drink electrolyte powder?

Key Times to Drink Electrolytes:

First Thing in the Morning: Most people wake up slightly dehydrated because the body loses fluids overnight through breathing and sweating. Drinking electrolytes right away can jumpstart your metabolism and boost energy levels.

Before, During, and After Exercise:
Pre-hydrate: Drink electrolytes about an hour before a workout to optimize performance and regulate body temperature.
During: For intense or long sessions, electrolytes help replace minerals lost through sweat.
Recovery: Rehydrating after exercise is a priority to replenish lost fluids and aid muscle recovery.

When You Are Sick: Symptoms like fever, vomiting, or diarrhea can cause rapid fluid loss. Electrolytes help restore fluid balance and can accelerate the recovery process.

During Heatwaves or Beach Days: High temperatures and activities like swimming or sunbathing increase electrolyte loss through sweat.

When Fasting: Electrolyte reserves diminish quickly when you aren't eating. Supplementing throughout the fasting window can help prevent headaches, fatigue, and muscle cramps.

While Traveling: Electrolytes can help reduce dehydration-related symptoms often experienced during flights or long trips.

The Afternoon Slump: If you feel tired or lose focus mid-afternoon, it may be due to mild dehydration; electrolytes can help you stay sharp and energized.

A Rule of Thumb: If you are really thirsty and have already consumed 8–12 ounces of plain water but still feel parched, your body likely needs electrolytes rather than just more water.

FAQ

How much electrolyte powder should I use?

Suggested Serving Size:

Standard GoHydrate Packets: Mix one stick (approximately 2.6g to 3.6g depending on the flavor) into 16.9 fl oz (500 mL) of water. Best Practices for Use: Dissolving: It is recommended to stir or shake the mixture in a shaker bottle to ensure the powder is fully dissolved.

Optimal Absorption: The GoHydrate formula is designed to be isotonic when mixed with the recommended amount of water, which allows for rapid and efficient absorption from the gut into the bloodstream.

FAQ

Can you drink electrolyte powder every day?

Yes, and for many people, it is a superior way to stay hydrated compared to plain water or traditional sports drinks.

The key is choosing a clean-label formula that prioritizes mineral balance over fillers such as GoHydrate. While the body is good at regulating minerals, modern lifestyles—including caffeine intake, stress, and processed diets—can often leave us slightly depleted.

Daily use of a high-quality electrolyte powder like GoHydrate can be a game-changer if you focus on these distinctions:

1. Clean Ingredients vs. High Sugar - The Problem: Many big brand electrolyte drinks such as Liquid IV are essentially liquid candy, packed with sugar. This causes insulin spikes and the inevitable sugar crash, which actually hinders hydration.
The Clean Solution: A clean powder like GoHydrate provides the essential minerals your cells need without the sugar. This allows for steady energy levels and makes it safe for daily use, even for those watching their glycemic index or following low-carb/Keto lifestyles.

2. Balanced Minerals vs. High Salt - The Problem: Lower-quality powders often rely heavily on sodium chloride (table salt) because it's cheap. Excessive daily sodium can lead to bloating and high blood pressure.
The Clean Solution: A premium formula like GoHydrate focuses on a diverse mineral profile, including potassium and magnesium. This balance supports muscle function and nerve signaling without the salt-heavy side effects of cheaper alternatives.

3. Real Hydration vs. Artificial Additives - The Problem: Daily consumption of artificial dyes (like Red 40), chemical sweeteners (like Aspartame), and synthetic flavors can cause gut irritation or inflammatory responses over time.
The Clean Solution: By using natural flavors and stevia or monk fruit, a clean electrolyte drink supports your long-term wellness. It's hydration you can feel good about drinking every single morning to kickstart your day.

The Bottom Line: Drinking electrolytes daily is an excellent habit if you choose a formula designed for health. It's not just about replacing sweat—it's about providing your body with the clean, mineral-rich environment it needs to function at its best every day.

FAQ

Can I mix electrolyte powder with other drinks?

Yes, you can mix GoHydrate electrolyte powder with other drinks besides plain water.

While the standard recommendation is to mix one stick pack with 16-20 oz of water, many customers enjoy it in soda water for a refreshing, fizzy alternative.

When choosing what to mix it with, keep these points in mind for the best experience:

Avoid Sugar Bombs: GoHydrate is designed to be a clean, sugar-free alternative to traditional sports drinks. Mixing it with high-sugar juices or sodas adds the metabolic baggage our formula is designed to avoid.

Dissolvability: Our Instant Hydration Technology is formulated for immediate absorption and typically dissolves quickly with a few shakes.

Flavor Profiles: Customers have reported that our natural fruit flavors, like Grape, are well-balanced and don't have the salty aftertaste common in other brands. This makes them versatile for mixing into different beverages without overwhelming the base drink.

FAQ

Can kids use electrolyte powder?

Yes, GoHydrate is safe for all ages, including children, when using the standard, creatine-free formulas.

However, there is a very important distinction between the standard hydration mix and the formula with added creatine:

Standard GoHydrate Formulas - Family-Friendly: Our original formula was built to be easy to use every day for the whole family.

Better than Sugary Alternatives: Because it is sugar-free and lower in sodium, it is a much friendlier option for kids than traditional sugar-and-salt bomb sports drinks or rescue-style oral rehydration solutions.

Key Benefits for Kids: It provides five essential electrolytes and 40% of the recommended daily intake of Vitamin D without artificial colors or preservatives.

Formulas with Creatine (GoHydrate+) - Not for Children: GoHydrate+ formulas containing creatine are not intended for children, especially pre-pubertal children.
Clinical Reasoning: Clinically, healthy children almost never need creatine for routine sports or daily function, and there is limited long-term safety data for pediatric populations.
Clinician Recommendation: Use in older teens (e.g., late-adolescent competitive athletes) should only be considered under clinician supervision as a medical decision.

Summary Tip: For your kids, we recommend sticking to our standard SKUs to provide clean, effective hydration without the unnecessary addition of creatine.

FAQ

Can seniors use electrolyte powder?

Yes, electrolyte powders like GoHydrate are excellent for seniors, as aging bodies often require more targeted hydration support.

For seniors, choosing a formula that prioritizes mineral balance without unnecessary metabolic load is key.

Here is how GoHydrate supports the specific needs of older adults:

Benefits for Seniors -
Reduced Dizziness and Fatigue: Seniors are more prone to dehydration, which can lead to washed-out feelings, weakness, and dizziness. Regular use of a balanced electrolyte formula has been associated with fewer of these episodes.

Muscle Support and Mobility: The GoHydrate+ Creatine formula is particularly beneficial for aging adults. Clinical evidence suggests that when combined with activity, creatine can help support muscle strength, mobility, resilience, and overall everyday function in older adults.

Bone Health: Many seniors are stuck indoors, especially during winter, making Vitamin D (the Super Vitamin) critical. Standard GoHydrate formulas provide 40% of the daily recommended intake of Vitamin D to support bone health and immune function.

Why GoHydrate is Aging-Friendly -

Zero Sugar: Traditional sports drinks can be sugar bombs that cause blood sugar spikes. GoHydrate is entirely sugar-free, making it a safer daily choice for metabolic health.

Gentle Sodium Levels: Many electrolyte powders use excessive salt. GoHydrate features a lower, gentler sodium level (~80mg) that supports hydration without meaningfully pushing daily sodium intake, which is important for those mindful of blood pressure.

Easy on the Gut: The formula is designed to be isotonic, meaning it is at a concentration the gut can absorb comfortably and efficiently without irritation.

Important Safety Note: While GoHydrate is highly beneficial for most active and aging adults, individuals with significant renal (kidney) disease should consult with their doctor before starting a daily electrolyte or creatine regimen.

FAQ

Is electrolyte powder safe for pregnancy?

Yes, electrolyte powders like GoHydrate are generally safe and can be a great way to stay hydrated during pregnancy, but it is always recommended to consult with your OB-GYN before adding any new supplement to your routine.

Benefits During Pregnancy:
Optimal Hydration: Pregnancy increases your body's demand for fluids and minerals. GoHydrate provides five essential electrolytes to help maintain fluid balance more effectively than plain water alone.

Morning Sickness Support: For those dealing with nausea or morning sickness, a flavored electrolyte drink can be easier to keep down than plain water and helps replenish minerals lost through vomiting.

FAQ

What are the side effects of electrolyte powder?

In the context of GoHydrate's specific formula, the risk of common electrolyte side effects is significantly reduced compared to high-sodium or sugar-laden alternatives:

Lower Risk of GI Distress and Fluid Retention - Minimal Sodium: Many traditional electrolyte drinks contain high levels of sodium (often 500mg to 1,000mg per serving), which can lead to fluid retention, high blood pressure, and a bloated feeling. GoHydrate uses lower, balanced mineral levels to avoid these issues.

No Silicon Dioxide or Preservatives: Many powders include anti-caking agents like silicon dioxide or artificial preservatives that can cause digestive sensitivity in some individuals. GoHydrate is free of these additives, making it gentler on the stomach. Eliminating Sugar-Related Side Effects - No Sugar Crash: Unlike many sports drinks that use high amounts of sugar or glucose to aid absorption, GoHydrate is sugar-free. This prevents the rapid spike and subsequent crash in blood sugar levels that can cause fatigue and irritability.

Stevia vs. Artificial Sweeteners: By using natural Stevia leaf extract instead of artificial sweeteners like aspartame or sucralose, GoHydrate avoids the headaches and potential gut microbiome disruption often associated with synthetic sugar substitutes.

Balanced Nutrient Profile - Vitamin D Integration: While other powders focus purely on salt, GoHydrate includes 40% of the daily value of Vitamin D, supporting immune health without the risks associated with mineral overloading found in high-concentration salt sticks.

Safe for Daily Use: Because it lacks the extreme sodium and sugar levels of recovery-grade powders designed for elite athletes, it is more suitable for daily hydration without the risk of hypernatremia (excess sodium) for the average person.

Note on Stevia: While safer than many alternatives, some individuals may still experience mild bloating or gas from Stevia, especially if they have sensitivities to the ragweed family.
